2019-2020 FULBRIGHT GRANTS

STUDY OR TEACH ABROAD AFTER GRADUATION

WHAT ARE FULBRIGHT GRANTS?

Sponsored by the U.S. Department of State, Fulbright Grants fund 8-10 months of study or teaching abroad in all areas of the world.

Applications will be considered in all fields, including the creative and performing arts. About 800 of the nearly 1900 awards are for study and/or independent research in over 140 countries, and more than 1,000 are to teach English. You may apply to teach English or to study/research, but not both. Applications must be for just one country, with only a few exceptions.

WHO IS ELIGIBLE?

Applicants must be U.S. citizens who have earned a Bachelor’s degree by the time the grant begins. Undergraduate APU students are encouraged to apply in their senior year; graduate students and alumni are always eligible to apply.

WHAT IS THE AWARD TIMELINE?

The APU deadline for applications is Monday, September 24, 2018 at 3:00 pm, for 2019-2020 academic year and campus interviews take place shortly thereafter. First round results from the Fulbright Commission are released on January 31. Final decisions are usually announced in April or May for awards beginning late summer or early Fall.

WHATBENEFITS ARE PROVIDED?

Full awards provide round-trip transportation, book and research allowances, a monthly stipend, and supplemental health and accident insurance. In some cases language courses and orientation are provided.
