Practicum Requirements

The department can provide a list of possible field experience practicum sites. However, if the student chooses to pursue CCAPP credentialing, it is the student's responsibility to find an approved practicum site, with appropriate supervision, to complete their hours.

For Students choosing to Minor in Substance Abuse Counseling (without pursuing CCAPP credential)

    • Complete PSYC 455 (2x)
        • Department recommends that site is related to substance abuse (but not required)
    • Practicum hours completed in PSYC 455 need to total 100 hours/semester
    • May complete the generic PSYC 455 time log provided by their instructor

For Students choosing to Minor in Substance Abuse Counseling (pursuing CCAPP credential)

    • Complete PSYC 455 (2x)
        • Substance Abuse practicum site required for all practicum hours
        • Appropriate supervision, aligned with CCAPP requirements, required for all practicum hours
    • Practicum hours completed in PSYC 455 need to total 128 hours/semester (255 total hours)
    • Of the 255 total practicum hours, 21 hours much be completed within each of the 12 core competency areas (listed below)
        • Must track hours using Field Time Log, which specifically lists competency areas
    • Attend 3 hour agency orientation (at practicum field site)
