APU’s Master of Science in Child Life is establishing affiliations with many hospitals - many inside and outside of California! APU’s Master of Science in Child Life program enrolled 33 students during 2017-2018 academic year in its inaugural year and has established affiliations with many hospitals both in and outside of California, including Mary Bridge Children’s Hospital in Washington state, UCSD Health in San Diego, Miller Children’s and Women’s Hospital in Long Beach, Children’s National Health System in Washington D.C, and St. John’s Children Hospital in Illinois.

Every student from the 2017-2018 academic year completed their Child Life practicum experience. Many are on their way to completing their Child Life internship towards becoming a Certified Child Life Specialist. Moriah Buehler was the first M.S. Child Life Intern to complete her internship (UCSD Health) and pass her certification exam. Congratulations to our first of many Certified Child Life Specialist (CCLS)!

The M.S Child Life program also launched an Advanced Standing program option (Fall 2018) intended for people who already are a Certified Child Life Specialist (CCLS) but are interested in pursuing a MS degree and people who have successfully completed the 600 required child life internship hours. We currently have 2 Advanced Standing students within our MS in Child Life program.

We admitted 20 students for the upcoming Fall and look forward to admitting more students for Spring. We continue to be a flexible and student-centered program offering evening classes, full and part-time options, and two start times a year. We also welcome non-matriculating students and senior undergrads taking our grad courses.

We are also excited to welcome three Certified Child Life Specialist faculty to our Department of Psychology, Hannah Knott, Carissa Howard, and Crystal Wiggleswroth. Be sure to visit our webpage to learn about them. For more information, please contact us at childlife@apu.edu, visit us at www.apu.edu/childlife , or follow us on Instagram at apu_childlife
